as a relatively new seller on eBay -I have some advice for those who are just starting-be certain to check the fee that both eBay and PayPal charge for transactions-and whether you are a buyer or seller be certain to check shipping costs-- these things have to be factored into your price whether buying or selling-I learned that the hard way

Definitely. One needs to read between the lines and understand the fees to expect when listing at eBay. If you are not so careful, I assure you it's not going to be fun, and from what you have shared, you learned about it the hard way. Thanks though for your willingness to share this truth for the benefit of all new sellers like you. :)

It helps if you strive to build your feedback first. As a more trusted seller, you will be capable of selling higher priced goods more effectively. It is a must that you use pictures that you have taken yourself, not stock photos. Buyers are now more aware of seeing a real photo as reflecting that the item is described as it is, and not made up.

And as for the fees, don't forget the Paypal fees, which is actually close to 13%!

Have a nice day!

If you plan on selling a lot of items an eBay, you should consider setting up an eBay store. There is a cost involved each month in having an eBay store, but the cost of the eBay store can be less than the discount you will receive on selling fees if you sell a certain amount of items.

If you are new to eBay, I suggest selling all of your unwanted items around the house to get your feedback up over 100. If you have an itunes account like me and use an ipod or iphone, then you can put all of your music CDs onto you PC and Apple device, then you can sell the physical CDs on eBay to get your feedback to 100.

I never play the physical CDs anymore but a lot of people still do so this is just one suggestion of the many items you can sell around the house. What you might think is junk, another person will think it is treasure. I know that sounds a bit corny, but I have sold things I was ready to throw out such as as an old internet modem for $20 plus shipping. As an eBay newbie, you need to build up feedback to 100 if you want powerseller status and to be taken serious when buyers place bids on your auctions or Buy It Now listings.

If you are selling second hand items you don't want anymore in order to build up feedback, don't worry about the eBay fees and start auctions at 99 cents with the correct postage cost. Just think of it as someone is paying to clear out your old stuff and paying to give you feedback and ultimately eBay experience and credibility as a seller.
