Should I need to caculate tax?

I plan to open a store and I will run a business at eBay. I wonder if I need to calculate tax and report it in 1040? If not reported in 1040, IRS will catch me later? If I calculate tax, just need to calculate tax sold items in my state, or every items I sold?
