Yes, there is no harm in offering free shipping or in buying from someone who is offering it, but a bit of background research would be ideal just to be sure that you are really getting the real deal :)

Since this post started eBay have changed lots of their policies and have now introduced capping postage prices in some categories and demand free postage in others.

Book sales for example: eBay told us book sellers that we had to list our items with free postage, and in return they would give us a discount on our final value fees. On one particular book that i was selling the postage was £8.22 with royal mail 1st class. The discount on the FVF was 12 pence, meaning i would lose £8.10 for every one i sold.

This was not acceptable and i stopped listing any books that were heavy. Many other book sellers done the same so eBay have now removed the free P&P stipulation and have now capped the category at £2.75.

It still doesn't cover the heavy books like encyclopedias, and there are alternative delivery methods now, but these are still above the £2.75 cut off point.

Moral to the story......don't buy heavy items to resell.

Anyone want a box of really heavy encyclopedias? Going cheap.....Joking of course.

The only issue that there is in free postage and shipping only arises when you are selling low cost items it eats into the profits to much, however with high ticket items, the margins are just to great to lose plus you can in some of these markets build a good customer base that will build for life creating bigger profits, and it all starts with the attrraction of free postage and constant good value!

I have to agree with you on this one, John.

There are some products are are worth the free shipping offer. Plus, by enticing buyers with free shipping, your overall number of sales will increase as well as your take-home profits. Even more if you are a powerseller! Since powersellers can avail of up to 20% discount on their FV fees.

Another thing you might also consider is - Are your competitors offer FREE shipping? If they are and you're not, you will definitely struggle in attracting buyers.

Cheers!
