Ok, the story is I got a GPS for black friday and tried to resell for tiny profit on ebay. But nobody bought in the first week, so I returned item to store and forgot to cancel listing... I know, DUMB.

Now someone has bought it, and the price in store is back up to where i'd lose like 30 dollars if I sold it on Ebay. So I have the option of either returning money to buyer and begging for their forgiveness, or running to store and buying an item at a loss and mailing it to them.

Help! Thanks for your wisdom!

Hi

First off, it was a little silly to forget to cancel the listing! But we have all been there.

Personally, I would write an apologetic email to the buyer explaining that you should have cancelled the listing, as it is no longer for sale (make something up, you ended giving it to your mother for her birthday).

I would also refund the Paypal payment as soon as you can.

But then I would also look through ebay yourself, and give them links to similar deals at similar prices. that way, the buyer will see you as a genuine person who has made a mistake, but more importantly is trying to rectify the mistake by offering links to other sellers who are selling the same item. It will only take you 2 minutes, and reduces the possibility of negative feedback etc.

good luck!

I once had a similar situation, selling an item on someones behalf. When the listing was finished I then found out that the item had already been sold elsewhere

I tried to avoid negative feedback, by apologising, explaining what happened and expressing how sorry I was about the incident. 95% of times - if your genuine seller with good feedback it will work. On this occasion, it didnt and I got negative but I guess you can't win them all.

At least you've learnt a valuable lesson which your unlikely to repeat.

I wouldn't go as far as rebuying the item and selling it at a loss, if you do get negative feedback then best to respond with a factual comment so people can see it was a genuine mistake.

I agree with above - you only learn from your mistakes, and you won't make the same mistake twice!

Good luck in the future! 8)
