What is the best way to ensure that noone is going to rip you of when selling on ebay?

I don't think there is any iron clad way to be sure. You could limit bidders to those with 10 or more positive feedbacks. You could limit bidders to only those with positive feedback. You could limit payment to Pay Pal only. But in the end, it seems to boil down to people keeping their word, as difficult as that may be to grasp. Sellers are at an advantage anyway. The buyer/bidder is the one who is really hanging it out there. They pay for something they have never held in their hand, going by words and pictures, send money to someone they don't know, and hope that person sends the goods they have promised. Talk about trust!

I agree that there's no foolproof way to ensure it, but there are certain steps you can take to help make it less likely for you to get ripped off.

One example is to only ship to the confirmed Paypal shipping address.

One thing to keep in mind is that the more limited you are in who you'll accept, you'll eliminate perfectly legitimate people along the way.

If you deal only in high end items, then it makes sense to have a good screening process in place in addition to what eBay already has, but if you're dealing with items under $100, then I wouldn't spend much time worrying about it just so that you don't eliminate any potential buyers.
