Like to add these dropshippers or wholesalers to the list but haven't checked them all out.

huh, sounds like dropshipping is like a pyramid scheme, except you don't have to pay or buy anything. i'm not sure if I want my reputation destroyed, since I don't really know what my product really looks like.

Hi tfchui.

Dropshipping is not a pyramid scheme, although I can see how it may look like that with ATS mulitlevel affiliate program. However, this scheme is mainly to market there site and holds no place within dropshipping.

Quote:
For those who aren’t familiar, dropshipping is a business term used for a situation where a seller sets a retail price for an item, collects the payment, sends the wholesale cost to a dropshipper and the item ships directly from their warehouse. In most cases, the seller never even handles the merchandise because every aspect of shipping is handled by the dropshipper. As successful as the industry has become, there are concerns that arise from this method of selling.

(From the article 10 Top Tips To Sucessfull Dropshipping)

In theory, it's great as you don't have to handle anything or invest money in stock upfront. Unfortunatly, there is a lot of competition online so you really have to do your research before deciding which products to list.

I second Mark's comments, dropshipping can be made to work but unfortunately people try to use it for things like ipods/psp's etc and unfortunately cannot really compete on the price side of things.

Take a look at any of the DVD dropshippers that surface and then disappear, most start with good intentions but due to the nature of the product they do not hold to much stock (price changes to quickly) and people end up selling stock that the dropshipper cannot deliver and it snowballs into bad customer experiences and hence bad press etc..

Very true. I used a supplier last year, now I can't find them anywhere. I think from a businesses point of view they must see dropshipping as a goldmine but none of them seem to stick it out.

Most buy from wholesalers as opposed to dropshippers, dropping does work but it takes some serious research and is better suited to early life cycle products and more nicher/collectable items..

Not sure if anyone has seen this but Ricjard Grady has launched a great site for the sourcing of products, I made a post about this over at my forum:Simply Wholesale.

The good thing is that you can see the products they are sourcing first, some of the England stuff is easy money at the moment..,

I agree dropshipping does not work...you have to buy in bulk at wholesale prices to compete on ebay.

I am somewhat amazed that finding suppliers can be such a "difficult" thing. I have been selling in eBay for a few years now, and every time I wanted to carry something (Citizen watches, linksys routers, TI calculators, anything) I just called the company directly and asked "Who is your distributor?". It takes about 2 minutes to get that information on the phone.

Who are these "dropshippers" anyway? It seems to me that all they do is buy from the distributors and become middlemen themselves. They are just a handful of large distributors in the US for electronics, and I mean 4 or 5. Once you have an account with say 2, you can dropship every single product under the sun, including iPods, which for some reason people seem to think they are impossible to sell.
