Hi Richelle,

Well great minds think alike, you know John Thornhill is a perfect example of how to use eBay as a sales funnel for backend sales of higer ticket items, eBay has to be one of the biggest if not the biggest on the net that will only send targeted traffic to your products the same as Article marketing does!

Great thread this....John.

Hi John,

Speaking of John Thornhill, we have a blog article wirtten about his Ninety Day Powerseller business.

The Ninety Day Powerseller business model is quite simple: all it involves is selling ebooks on a wide variety of topics such as cooking, making money and natural healthcare. You don't need to be a writer to take this opportunity, nor do you need eBay experience. It's a model that works equally as effectively for new sellers as it does for the more experienced.

I had just sold my laptop on ebay and it sold for $466.00 + 20 S&H. At first I was happy, then I saw a my Ebay fees for that sale was $42.00. So I was like, f**k. Then I go to my Paypal account and saw that Paypal too another $14.50 and they based the percentage not on the price after the Ebay fees, but the original sell price with the shipping expense.

So in total, they (Ebay and Paypal), really people, they're one company, took $56.00 from a $466.00 sale. What the f**k is that. Talk about f***in being greedy.

TO EBAY, U SUCK......

Hi van33,

Yes, the fees are indeed overwhelmign! And Yes, eBay and PayPal are basically one and the same.

The fees are usually based on the final value fee of the listed item so the higher you final selling price(before deductions), the higher fees you'll need to pay both eBay and PayPal. I think this is to discourage sellers from selling items on a per listing basis and to encourage sellers to sign up for their offered prepackaged eBay stores. So if you're selling often and have a number of items maybe you should consider getting one yourself - since eBay store fees are much lower than the usual auction style listings.

To learn more about your options, please have a read:

Cheers! :)

THOMAS655 wrote:IF I HAVE AN ITEM THAT I KNOW IS WORTH AT LEAST $150.00, IS THERE ANYTHING WRONG WITH STARTING THE ITEM AT $.01 WITH A $100.00 SHIPPING FEE? IT WILL MAKE THE FINAL VALUE FEES BE MUCH LESS, SINCE THE FVF IS CHARGED ON THE SELLING PRICE ONLY. IF I DO SO AND DESCRIBE THE REASONING FOR DOING SO IN THE DESCRIPTION OF THE PRODUCT, CAN EBAY TAKE ANY ACTION AGAINST ME? IF WE CAN TELL THE POTENTIAL BUYER UP FRONT THE REASONING BEHIND THE SHIPPING COST BEING LISTED SO HIGH, I THINK MOST PEOPLE WILL UNDERSTAND THAT THE GRAND TOTAL COST OF THE SHIPPING + THEIR WINNING BID WOULD BE THE SAME ON AN ITEM THAT SELLS FOR $100.00 WITH A $5.00 SHIPPING FEE, AND AN ITEM THAT SELLS FOR $5.00 WITH A $100.00 SHIPPING FEE.

that's ridiculous, as a buyer I would dismiss your auction almost immediately after checking it. I have seen people do this for many different items ranging from CD's to clothing. I have sold a number of items on ebay before and know what packaging cost for say a cd case with a cd in it. Then I see someone trying to sell something similar with a $20 shipping charge when I know it's not more than $5-6. I know some people blow the shipping charges out of the water to cover there bottom line better but it's also the ones I avoid when buying.

you used to be able to get away with high postage prices but these days people dont even bid. You would also loose points on your DSR (detailed seller rating) but believe this is not a big deal. I lost my Top rated seller place due to Royal mail loosing just 4 of my items out of 600 in one year. By the way I gave each of these 4 people a refund!!!!!!!!!!!

Regardless of peoples opinions on eBay fees, they still represent fantastic value for money.

Where else would you get the exposure and potential customer footfall that eBay affords? The answer is nowhere.

People say open your own website. With the cost of quality SEO, and advertising streams, that will end up costing you more per item than what it would with eBay.
