Well folks, The Auction Board is no more.
I was a big part of that board for a long time. Site admin, tried to keep things flowing along, fighting the spam. It started out as a great board.
Then Genia had to let it go. Next owners were great folks. Nick was ill and had to sell. I don't know who the moron is who bought it, but they new owners would not reveal their indentities, although I did look 'em up. They let it go, it became filled with porn spam, and other spam, and now, poof, gone.
It was a good business opportunity. I can't believe someone would through it away. I think they paid 12 grand for it. |

I saw it yesterday, with the site just replaced by a standard 404 page. Certainly was a waste of 15 grand & a great shame to let the site go like that!

I'm not sure. I asked several times for the new owners to please introduce themselves. Then I finally packed it in. The sense of community was lost after that, at least for me.
Glad to be here now. Great board. |

| Yeah I watched it through the changes, shame its gone but it seems to be happening a lot lately to some of the bigger forums. Spammers have a lot to answer for... |

I doubt spam was the reason for the end of the forum. There are spam prevention mods you can install these days that work a treat. I run a forum myself and the only spam I get is from the occasional fool who I ban the hell out of. Including their email address so they cannot register again i never have any serious problems. And i ban words like "viagra" so they cannot even appear in the first place |

I did all that. I had a list of banned words and censored words as long as your arm. They kept coming, but the new owners wouldn't give me access to install a mod. They would not communicate. They just let it go to crap. Soon as I left, the spam became mountainous, and obviously, the owners had no interest in doing anything about it.
The previous owner had emailed me and the new owner about getting together and discussing the situation. No response.
I just can't figure out how someone can toss 15 grand away for nothing.
Makes no sense to me. Unless they plan to sit on the domain name for a few years and make double that back or something. I'm not sure what the plan could be.
I believe that someone with lots of cash, and very few brains actually bought it. That is my gut feeling on the matter. |

Without a mod, your fighting a losing battle against spam. Censor words by enough are never enough as you found out.
I know that wayoutauctions.com was also included in the auction. This seems to have gone quiet as well - not being updated for several months. |

That is strange eh? Way Out Auctions must have been taking in some good ad revenue.
I don't get it at all. |

| Hmmm. The domain name was allowed to expire for a day and then renewed - maybe someone has plans for it after all. |

I'll tell you it's a bloody mystery to me. That page was designed to maintain top rank.
I see the blog is still up, but hasn't been updated in months. |
