Hi. I'm new to this forum and so selling via ebay & paypal.

This is my very bad experience. I was selling Amazon gift certificate in ebay. Somebody bid the certificate (actually it's a claim code). He paid by paypal, I've accepted the paid and email him the claim code. Everything seems smooth until two days after the bid finished.

A paypal user asked for a re-claim for a un-authorized transaction to me. I was puzzled and email him to see what happened. He said I've hacked into his paypal account and made this un-authorized tracsaction.... he do not have a ebay account nor bid my gift cert .... so and so .... so I realized what had happened.

If this paypal user didn't lie, a bad guy was using this paypal account to bid my gift cert and finally stolen my gift cert. I've contacted paypal immediately about this, the paypal representative asked me for some sort of goods tracking code. I said I don't have any tracking code as the good is delivered via email. That representative said according to their record I'll most likely lose this case if I don't have any tracking code.

The case is still under paypal review...

I think I'll total lost in this auction. What I'm wonder is paypal/ebay only protect buyer? Selling of "virtual" goods are not protected?

On the other hand, can I do anything with paypal and then claim my account was hacked?

Puzzled!!!!

exactly same case happened with me..

I am selling PC games and one of that game was an online game. My item was sold and paid for. Immediately email came from buyer to send the code by email. I asked him what to do with the disc but he did not reply clearly. I sent him the code thro email and also sent the disc by ordinary email.

After few days, i received paypal claim from the buyer stating 'unauthorized transaction'. I contacted paypal and tried to explain, but they insisted only on tracking code. Finally the amount was refunded to the buyer!!!

Absolutely no protection for sellers. Very frustrating situation becoming worse by crazy feedback policies that seller cannot put negative or nutral feedback to a buyer. What it means- a seller can be bad but the buyer is always good!!

I think there are less hopes in your case too.

The idiot who scammed you should be fried....There are to many of them out there...and to top it all off you had to pay fees to ebay and to paypal...where's the profit..Eaby sucks.
I wish there was a great alternative but I havent found one....I tried to create my own at http://kakkle.com
However it is very difficult to get it off the ground....I am allowing people to list for free and I am placing thier ads on craigslist when they post...so they are getting hits....I am still looking for that magic link that will drive traffic so I no longer have to be dependent on ebay. If anyone has any suggestions please help.
Thanks

Most ebay sellers are frustrated with the way they are treated but have to bite the bullet because there is no realistic alternative. Ebay know this which is why they can get away with their prices and anti seller policy decisions. We can only wait and hope for an alternative to come along. When it does I think they'll be a mass exodus from the bay.

Actually this is the reason I joined this forum. I have been hit with so many disputes lately its ridiculous. I have had enough. When I joined in 2004 it was great and equal. I emailed and called eBay, and asked why there is nothing for the sellers. Each time I got the same response: USER AGREEMENT/SELLER AGREEMENT.

BTW each time the case was awarded to the BUYER and here's the nice thing: I GOT NONE OF THE ITEMS BACK. THATS RIGHT PAYPAL TOOK MONEY FROM ME GAVE IT TO THE BUYER AND DIDNT REQUIRE THAT THEY HAVE A TRACKING CODE FOR THE RETURN OF THE ITEM. THEY DIDNT EVEN SAY THE ITEM HAD TO BE RETURNED. WHEN I ASKED BUYERS WHERE THE ITEMS WERE ONE PERSON ACTUALLY TOLD ME "THEY DIDNT SAY I HAD TO SEND THE ITEM BACK"
They ended up with two cell phones that had barely been used a month, and left negative feed back saying "The Phones Don't Look The Same"!!! AND FYI THEY STILL CHARGED ME THE FEES FOR SELLING ON TOP OF EVERYTHING.

Bottom Line in my opinion buyers think that they can get away with anything because 1.paypal and ebay side with them over everything and 2. they took away everything from sellers it started with paypal, then feedback.

I started using SwapTree and Amazon for electronics and Craigslist I am looking for another site where i can list everything.

The only problem im having with amazon is that they hold your money and u get paid every 2 weeks

swaptree is good if you are looking into trading. Everything on that site has the same value. which is why they only deal in books, games, cds, and dvds. I have gotten plenty of books and dvds that would have cost me $10-$20 in a store. I only pay around $1.90 to ship the item they want from me. Its good if you are doing spring cleaning and such.

But like I said before I haven't been able to sell anything other then electronics and books.

Craigslist hasnt worked to well because people dont like the prices and offer you a ridiculous amount for something of higher value. Along with all the spam and emails, it gets annoying. I am surprised to see how fast it became a spam/scam site.

I just joined IOffer I still havent gotten started on there yet but they have a cool feature that lets you import anything you have listed on ebay right to there site.
