I have a domain name (like cnn.com, abc.com, amazon.com etc. though nowhere near as valuable :) ) that I wish to sell on ebay. I don't believe the item will be found through search or people browsing the listings, and the domain name is something that I think just a couple dozen of companies would be interested in owning.

I would like to email (and/or phone) these companies with a link to the listing, and then leave it up to them to decide on a price through the normal auction process.

My question is does anyone know what ebay's policy is on making direct contact with a potential buyer using email or phone? If there is, where might I find this in their terms and conditions?

For example, hypothetically, say I was selling the generic (non-trademarked, safe to sell) domain name "burger.com", and wished to tell someone at McDonalds, Burger King and Jack In The Box about it, knowing that most (if not all) of those companies are not going to be searching for that name on a regular basis.

Could I place a listing on ebay for burger.com, and then phone or send an email to those burger companies, without concern of any repercussions?

FYI, I really don't have a set price for the domain name I'm selling (just a minimum), so that is why I am not bypassing ebay altogether and contacting the couple dozen companies with a price - I would like them to "sort it out amongst themselves" on ebay.

Any insights would be welcome.

If anything needs clarifying in my post, please let me know.

Thanks in advance!

SunShadow,
eBay definitely frowns upon any member to member contact that is unsolicited and commercial in nature. Here is the link to this part of their policy: http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/rfe-spam-ov.html. However, nothing is stopping you from contacting those companies outside of eBay altogether and offering your domain name for sale. You could even still use PayPal if you wanted.
