as a buyer or as a seller, ebay has some new policy which has been set for awhile where there's no negative feedbacks and sellers need really high detailed seller ratings (DSR).

if this is about the same issue, there's been a lot of people who haven't been liking it one bit!

Well feedback section should be open..
If someone has a complain, it should be published. Negative feedback always helps in making things better... :)

I agree edwardvettori - it is always good to know everything about a seller, especially the bad side. But the thing is feedback extortion is quite common on eBay. This could be one of the reasons behind eBay's decision.

But if you are referring to the policy where a seller cannot leave a negative fb for bad buyers, I think this one's quite unfair - I think it should go both ways as there are a handful of "unreasonable" buyers on eBay too not just sellers.

I find this recent post by auctiva quite amusing but helpful, check it out:

I think eBay stopped letting sellers leave negative feedback because some sellers would receive negative feedback and then demand the buyer remove it or receive negative in return. Many sellers used this method as their protection from negative.

eBay have been looking into ways of helping sellers from buyers that leave negative feedback and low DSR's. I wrote a blog post on it a little while ago:
http://barry-wells.com/ebay-helping-sel ... -feedback/

There's a link within the post to an eBay help page where you as a seller can report a buyer if you feel their actions are unacceptable.

For example: If a buyer buys numerous items on different occasions and leaves you neg feedback, or a low DSR. eBay rightly think that if the buyer had a gripe why would they return for more of the same service?

If a buyer continually leaves low DSR's eBay will now email them and explain the impact of low DSR's to a seller. If the buyer continues to leave low DSR's their account is suspended and If they're found to be in competiton with the seller all of their accounts are suspended. Remember eBay log your IP address, and all accounts from that address are suspended.

So you see eBay are taking measures to level the playing field, but yes they still have some way to go.

Well if they have stopped negative feedbacks what if a genuine buyer who is dodged by the seller want to give his feedback? This will surely be a sort of injustice to that innocent buyer!

Hi Edward, buyers can leave any feedback they wish to. If its genuine feedback from a genuine buyer the seller hasn't got a leg to stand on.

eBay have noticed that some buyers leave neg feedback and low DSR's quite often, regardless of the buying experience and its these people that eBay are assisting sellers with.

For example:
I was given a low DSR score by a buyer that scored me low on all 4 points, including P&P which was free. Yet his feedback was positve which is contradicting his low DSR scoring.

As long as you do things properly you've no need to worry.

Hope that helps, Barry

That's true Barry :)

There are a few buyers that are a bit unfair and unreasonable when it comes to leaving sellers feedbacks. And its actually good that eBay is trying to reach out to these sellers.

Thanks for sharing this with us Barry. Cheers!
