Has anyone here tried promoting their Ebay store or selling their products on social networking sites? So many people have Facebook, Myspace and Twitter these days that I think it would definitely be beneficial to try to target those consumers.

Toldya.com has a free portable estore that you can customize and embed on your social networks to sell your products. Its free to use, really easy to create, and can help you increase sales and promote your store. Big companies such as Apple and Walmart have ToldYa estores too! Ebay can be so expensive to use so I think taking advantage of your social networks to sell products can create new revenue! Here's a link if anyone is interested!

For me, it's not something that would appeal as my facebook account is aimed at friends and family while my ebay listings are a business asset. If I thought a friend or family member was interested in something i was selling on ebay, i'd be unlikely to list it on ebay initially.

Other members may disagree though and it may appeal to them, especially those using twitter or who have social networking accounts aimed at the business community

I agree with Mark. You wouldn't go out for a drink with a few friends and take some of your products to sell to them. Imagine it you're having a conversation about football or politics or whatever and every now and then someone pulls out an mp3 player and tries to sell you it. Business is one aspect of life and socialising is another. I prefere to keep them separate. When I meet my friends I want a laugh, not a demonstration of some new gizmo.

One of the benefits you get from Social Media is the traffic that flock to these sites. Imagine how many users FaceBook has worldwide and imagine if you could convert all those users into your customers?! Now wouldn't you be seeing a lot of dollar signs??? I bet you would be sporting a big smile all the time.

Seriously, you don't necessary have to mix business with personal. You can create a separate page that is devoted solely for your products, a Fan page perhaps. This will give potential customers a chance to get to know your products and YOU - thus you get the opportunity to prove yourself as a trustworthy seller that they can count on pre- and post-sale and best of all this won't cost you a penny..

Although you can put up ads as well if you like. Here's an article you may refer to when you do decide to put up a paid ad on FaceBook: http://www.inc.com/magazine/20100201/ho ... ebook.html

Also, there are recent studies such as this one, that shows that Facebook generates more ads traffic than Google does, http://www.inc.com/news/articles/2010/0 ... affic.html

Maybe you may want to re-think your thoughts about using Facebook to promote your products.... :)

Hey Guys,

This is a very good subject, you know all these social networking sites are the future of Ecommerce, whether you believe or even like it or not, I know of a few tutorial products out there that teach internet marketers how to successfully use this medium with amazing success!

I mean think about it, there are millions of visitors to "Facebook" every single day seven days a week, and the same if not more so for Twitter, speaking of which check out htis video tutorial course from Dave Nicholson, Its the best on the market for utilising Twitter as an advertising medium in a unique and very powerful way?

Check it out ==>> http://tinyurl.com/Twitt-Dynamite

Also there is a report by expert Tiffany Dow on how to blast your eBay sales throught he roof on your Squidoo lens and thats just one chapter, check that out ==>> http://tinyurl.com/Squidoo-for-eBay

Trust me done the right way you simply won`t need to worry about "Best Match" rankings on eBay, period!

Yes, Facebook is a great resource for tapping traffic/exposure! There are so many users these days using Facebook who actually sell their products on Facebook.

A recent study (2010 Social Shopping Study) conducted by the e-tailing Group and PowerReviews showed that Facebook does impact a buyer's decision. To read more, here the link to the full article:

Exactly John! And everything's laid out at the tip of everyone's finger tips. Its just a matter of putting it to use and starting things.

Even eBay CEO Donahoe is expecting mobile transactions (as compared to the conventional home shopping method) to increase in the not-so-far future. If you haven't, you can check out all the applications being laid out for iPhones/iPads to enable users ease of shopping and paying while on the go. Before it used to be just the internet and laptop/pc combo but the trend now is shopping on the go!

Cheers :)

I think it was just a matter of time, its just "evolution" of the internet, and like you say if all the right buttons are pushed using it then there are untold profits to be made far into the future, like some of the posts here, Facebook, and Twitter are all still being looked at as a social medium between friends and family, to me that just shows me the youth of these sites, the words not quite out there yet on social medias business building potential....

And I don`t just mean online, think about it some people actually promte big offline corparations for a fee on Google adWords, and I think the same business model has set the precedence!

Exactly John! When eBay started a few years back, who would have thought then that eBay would grow to be this big and influential in the world of e-commerce? My guess would be not too many people.. But now we see eBay as one of the giants and along with it, people's initiative to shop online has risen over a hundred folds!

In the near future, these social media sites will mature and evolve too! AS it is right now they are a great way to generate additional traffic to your site/listing.

All the best!

Hey,

You know theres a drawn line on using these mediums and I can see why, people look at all the social platforms as friendly chit chat and setting timetables between family and friends, but as we have juat mentioned its only a matter of how you view Twitter and Facebook even Squidoo, to me they business tools, and very powerful at that!

Todays business formula on the net is not to chase the money but let the money come to you, by that I mean giveaway a lot of free information and products in order to gain trust from people, so that when you do promote or offer up your opt in box or both they will be glad to pay and join your business for regular future sales and free offerings and what better way to utilise this mindset than by getting your presense out there on the social forums!
