I've been gathering things for a garage sale next summer (I know, I'm starting early), but lately I've been thinking about maybe just selling them over ebay in the hopes of maybe getting more money since I'll be reaching more people. What do you guys think? Has anyone here done both and can compare them?

Well that's the biggest advances of ebay. Where else can you reach a potenital audience of millions, all from the comfort of your own home.

I've never done a garage sale, so couldn't compare but I know of a lot of sellers in the UK who buy goods from these kind of sales, and relist them on ebay. That should tell you something...

Personally I can't be bothered with standing outside even if it is for an afternoon, trying to get rid of my unwanted stuff. Much easier to pop it onto ebay and just give it as much time as is needed to sell. As long as you have no storage issues of course!

Thanks for the input. Those were all very good points. I'll probably just end up selling my things on ebay. I guess now my only question is what if no one bids on my stuff? Can I just repost it?

if your item doesn't sell eBay will give you a free re-list as long as your item sells the second time, If not they'll charge you for both.

Interesting ... thanks, sausage. so this brings me to another question, which may have been answered in another thread (if so, my apologies) ... I had no idea that you had to pay to post your auctions. Is this true for all auctions or only if you don't sell your item after a second time?

LJK,

You must pay a listing fee for every item that you list. But if it does not sell, then you can relist it. Once relisted, if it sells, then you only pay the initial listing fee. If it does not sell, you will pay the listing fee twice.

The listing fees are not that bad. Only 35 cents if you start your bid at $9.99 or less. You will also be charged a final value fee, which is a small percentage of the final selling price. I would highly recommend my free mini course. You can check it out by visiting the site in my signature below.

The course will give you a great foundation for buying and selling on eBay. It also gives you a quick start plan for getting your eBay business off the ground. I think you will find that once you learn the ropes of eBay, it is a great place to buy and sell. Much better than a garage sale.

Hope this helps.

I think you are on the right track to making a good career on ebay. But you will have to make sure you keep collecting things for selling. You have got to always have a lot of things for sale and new auction listing every few days so that you can keep your income steady. If you keep steady at it then you will feel more like you are doing your own business. I've heard it can be addicting once you get really good at auctioning.
