What's the "etiquette" regarding how long to wait before really bugging a seller??

Here is my situation.

I bought a working XBOX (games, controllers, cords, etc).. I got a really good deal and I am sure I got it for WAY lower than the seller wanted to sell it..

It's been 3 days since the auction ended (I paid for it immediatly after the auction ended) and I have yet to hear a word from the seller. The seller has a 41/100% positive feedback score so I have no problem giving him/her the benefit of the doubt.. I sent him/her a note the day after the auction asking him/her to advise me when the item is shipped. I sent another note this morning, asking him/her to give me a sign.. No response as of yet...

I can understand his/her reluctance to part with the item for such a low price, but hay.. I mean, I ended up selling a DVD/VHS combo unit that worked perfectly for $5... Dem's da breaks, is how I look at it.. Sometimes you get the bear.. Sometimes the bear gets you..

So anyways, I was wondering how others feel about this?? I am thinking about giving the seller the weekend and then, come Monday start really making an effort to contact the seller..

Any thoughts??

Thanx in advance...

Michale.....

I would wait at most 1 week before contacting the seller if you haven't received the item or heard from the seller. I would give it a few more days after that to file a claim with PayPal if you still haven't heard from the seller.

Yes, Like NewLifeAuctions says 1 week is more than enough time. If they still don't reply do an eBay advanced search and see if the seller has a telephone number listed with eBay.

I think everybody is being way too generous. If you paid immediately I would not wait more than 2-3 days. Go ahead and start a PayPal complaint and you will see how things start to move quickly.

I am a powerseller myself, and sadly the squeaky wheel always get more attention.

Why be scared of doing business? Its your money and its online with real people. Just be curtious and politely ask for a tracking number the moment you pay. I get that all the time and am not bothered by it.

Yeah, I would fall into the 3 days category. I wouldn't leave it a week, because a week will quickly turn into 2 weeks, and so on.

It is highly ignorant of the seller not to acknowledge a customer. There are few things that irk me more than sending someone my hard earned money, and they don't even acknowledge they received it. If a seller can't have an automatic email set up to thank someone for a purchase and acknowledge their payment, perhaps selling isn't their thing.

I think there have been more misunderstandings, and negative feedback entries left because of these simple little things people need to do. How long does it take to send a message?

It is annoying that many sellers do not take themselves seriously enough, I'm sure plenty of them would be miffed at lack of communication on delays.

When I first started selling, I simply sent a quick reply to the paypal confirmation email saying thanks, your item will be posted tomorrow morning, but I now have automated emails that send when I mark an item as dispatched - usually within a few hours of receiving payment.

A little bit of courtesy doesn't cost much, and goes a long way.

Sorry about the Name Change... I couldn't remember my password and the email notification on here is not working.

Anyways, I want to thank everyone for their replies. As it turned out, the individual contacted me later in the day, after I left the original post..

Everything went fine, item was received and all is good and right with the world.

However, I do agree with the last couple replies about a little contact courtesy would go a long way...

A perfect case in point is my current issue that has just cropped up, which I will detail in another thread...

Again, thanx for the replies..

First, what is the item number of the auction?

Second, if he required immediate payment, there should be a response within 24 hours of notification of received payment.

Also most power sellers take longer then the not so lucky non power sellers to notify, deliver, or deal with their buyers items. Because they have such a high volume of customers, they take longer usually to get to each one, some often instead of going to the post office every day, instead do a weekly trip.

Someone above me said a week, I'd give him 48 hours to respond. If he hasn't by then, I would personally then send a message asking if he has received payment, and if so if he has sent out the 360.

If no response has been received 48 hours after the first 48, I would escalate this to a dispute on eBay, then file a claim on paypal.

He has 41% preferred for a reason, I'm surprised he is still on eBay.
