Best Ebay Alternative

Ebay Alternative - A better deal for all Australians

I have been a great fan of Ebay for a number of years and have bought and sold on it almost on a weekly basis. But as a seller, one of the drawbacks I have found with Ebay is the high cost of their fees. It is true that ebay does allow eBay Store owners to reduce their fees by referring their customers by a special url (although only Ebay.com users can do this), but still the fees can take quite a chunk out of your profits.

The problem is that Ebay dominates the online auction market and has milliions of visitors every day. This has meant that it's sellers often get a raw deal when it comes to fees, especially it's international customers. These fees can be a deterant to anyone who wants start up a business selling on online auctions.

I recently started selling on Amazon and I have been making about 2-3 sells per day. Its not much but you don't have to pay fees to list items. You only pay about 15% when the item sells. So you can cut the listing fees to 0 if you use amazon. Although they take a higher final value fee it is still a great deal cheaper because with ebay even if the item does not sell you still pay the listing fee. With amazon it is always listed 30 days for no charge until the item is sole.

I've been using iOffer for a short while now, and it seems like one of the better alternatives out there.

Their fees are lower, they have many helpful community members willing to help newbies, and they have a lot of FREE tools and features to get you started (FREE listings, FREE pictures, FREE stores, FREE importing items and feedback rating over...)

Anyways, try and see it yourself! Share your opinions with everyone here and make some suggestions!

Amazon is ok but they are high in final value fees which can take a big portion of your profit if you don't take it in to account when listing the item

It might seem like a small victory, but I registered at Bidjit.com when they came out of beta testing a few months ago and I'm finally seeing results!!!!

I sell antiques and while i get a few sales out of ebay here and there I sold my first three items this past weekend on bidjit and they were not cheap items. i'll still use ebay but think i'll keep using bidjit as well as i need to cover all the bases. the one thing i like about this new auction site is they don't charge you if your stuff does not sell. i paid them 2% on the fvf fees and also paid a few dollars for featuring my items - they charge a dime for featured listings. the site is sometimes slow but i received an email today letting users now that they have more servers going online. ok, i'ma bit excited so i'm going around to rally the troops and help them get out the message to go over, register and sell

oops! www.bidjit.com[/url]

for those who are interested, AuctionBytes published an article with iOffer's holiday sales totals:

eBay Alternatives: iOffer Reports Sales Are Up

iOffer.com reported record dollar sales, units sold, new items listed, and new memberships over the past six weeks from November 1, 2008 to December 15, 2008. The "trading community" marketplace encourages negotiation between buyers and sellers and reported key metrics for the holiday shopping season (November 1 to December 15). Data from 2007 is listed first, followed by the same period in 2008.

- Dollar Sales: $5.5 million vs. $15.1 million (175% growth)
- Unit Sales: 121,323 vs. 275,813 (127% growth)
- New Item Listings: 470,846 vs. 1,213,476 (158% growth)
- Traffic: 3 million visits vs. 9 million visits (198% growth)
- Page Views: 31 million vs. 80 million (158% growth)
- New Member Registration: 44,192 vs. 126,175 (186% growth)

Personally, I doubt that anyone will ever be able to compete with ebay - the wheel has already been invented. However, I do see the future of online auctions being more focused towards specialist and niche sites. It is much easier to attract targetted buyers to them, rather than hoping to bring everyone on the internet to one place.

I also see more people setting up their own websites, and just using ebay as a lead-generation tool to get their name and product showcased, then retain former ebay customers via other e-commerce solutions, such as ekmpowershop or Uk2 e-commerce packages.

I posted iOffer's holiday sales here, so here's their January stats:

iOffer.com Reports Growing Revenue and Traffic in January

Successful Start to 2009 Brings Higher Expectations and Goals

San Francisco, CA -- The 2008 holiday season is over and 2009 is carrying higher goals for iOffer.com. December 2008 left the alternative online marketplace web site wanting more with record numbers across the line. Despite the continuing effects of the declining economy and the need for consumers to save money, January statistics in terms of traffic and revenue have fulfilled and surpassed all expectations for iOffer.

Key Metrics January 2008 vs. 2009
- Dollar Sales: $3.8 million vs. $8.5 million (124% growth)
- Unit Sales: 67,000 vs. 242,000 (261% growth)
- Traffic: 2.4 million visits vs. 5.8 million visits (142% growth)
- Page Views: 25 million vs. 65 million (160% growth)
- New Member Registration: 35,000 vs. 93,000 (166% growth)

New members and item listings are pouring in every day. Total transactions and dollar sales are increasing steadily. January set the tone of a successful year for iOffer, as more improvements are planned to enhance the overall buying and selling experience of its members.
