Everything was fine until for a $2 sum iwas asked or told that I would have to pay 30 cents charge? ANyone know why this one was different please. What am I missing?

OK after a little digging it seems that it is beacuase some folk pay through a credit card rather than having a balance in their paypal account. Can anyone confirm this and if this is so how do I tell wether people are paying one way or the other?
I feel like I am getting charged for other people here?

That's correct. If you have a personal account, you can receive paypal balance to balance transfers without charges.

However, if the payment is funded by a credit card a fee will apply. There is also a limit of 5 transactions per 12 month period funded by credit cards.

Most users simply upgrade to a premier account so they can receive payments regardless of the source - this does means you will have to pay a fee on receiving all payments though.

Mark hit the nail on the head on this one. That is my understanding as well. If you plan on doing more with paypal a premier or business account is what you want anyway.
