is to have an affiliate site. More people will see your listings and ebay will pay you every time someone buys something that comes into ebay from your site. Also google and amazon also have something like this.

I Just wanted to let everyone know to check out my ebay auction.
Search this ebay item number to get to my auction.Thanks.

Yes you can but you need to approach it in a professional manner. As already mentioned research is one of the main keys to success. Spend some time researching products and prices.

Also be sure to factor in ebay and paypal fees, these are expensive but there's no getting away from them if you want to trade on ebay. Selling on ebay is not cheap but with a long term stratergy that includes having your own website you can make it pay.

Welp, I think everyone said it all here...but just to add a bit more.
eBay is a good way to access potential customers for any kind of product you can get at a wholesale price.

basics that need be used on eBay:
1)good marketing mindset & good copywriting skills for "non-brand" items

2)items that you can have at a price which is sold to you for less that the average selling price (check "Completed listings" for this info)

3)A good drop-shipper who has a good Shipping system which you can use for all your new customers from eBay.

That is the keys to money success on eBay as I see it.
(And yes. you can really-really make money on eBay)

I agree with one of the replies above. You need to focus on a particular product to sell. I'm not going to divulge what I am selling, but I've been using the site www.CLGenie.com to be the first to jump on good deals off of Craigslist. CLGenie emails you new posts that match what you are searching for. The emails come in really fast, so I'm usually the first one to call/reply to a post.

Good Luck!

I signed up to ebay about a month ago, and was subject to and experienced the Ebay/Paypal Monopoly first hand. I did not want to use Paypal to accept payments as I already have my own merchant account with First Data and they are half the price of Paypal. When listing my first item, I scrolled to the part where it asked how I would like to be paid. I un-checked Paypal, and checked credit card. On the next screen it said that in order to accept credit cards I had to fax a copy of my merchant account invoice to them to prove to them that I can support this method of payment. I faxed them the necessary documents, and the games began. 2 days went by and no message from them about what was going on. Then I called them and was asked why I did not want to use paypal, and that it is the preferred payment of ebay. I explained to them my situation, and they said they would look into the situation, and they would get back to my via email. I waited another 2 days, and nothing. I called them again, and they brought me to the listing page, and they walked me through and told me to click Paypal for payments accepted, and I told them I did not want to accept Paypal, and they were dumbfounded and did not know what to do. They knew nothing about how to integrate my merchant account. They told me I have to wait for T&S to contact me. The next morning I called them again, and was once again told to just use Paypal and recieved a pitch on how they were safe and secure. I asked to speak to a manager, and they told me the manager was not available. I then called again and they finally got to the bottom of things. I listed a couple of items, and after the first one ended, the buyer told me there was no way for him to pay. I called ebay again and they told me there was a "Pay Now" button in the email that was automatically sent to them after the auction ended. The buyer told me there was nothing there. I got this same response from every winning bidder that day. I called ebay and they once again told me that I should accept Paypal for payments until they get the situation fixed. I told them I would not pay for the listing fees so far and they told me I have to pay them, and that it is like listing an ad in the paper and the listing fees are non-refundable. The next day they told me that they fixed the problem, and then I listed a couple items, and everything seemed to be good, until the first auction was down to the last minute. The account was blocked by Paypal, and I was informed that they needed more information on my Paypal account in order for the account suspension to be lifted. I called ebay and they told me the block was from Paypal. I called Paypal and they asked for my SS# and receipts for the items I was selling. I told them I never opened a Paypal account, and they told me regardless, they would still need the information in order to lift the suspension, and until then, the account would remain blocked. I called Ebay and they told me there was in fact a Paypal account linked to my ebay account and that there was nothing they could do. Now, I NEVER opened a Paypal account nor did I link it to my ebay account. To me, this is yet another shady desperate attempt by Ebay to force new members that do not know any better to use Paypal to accept Paypal so they can make money from every angle. When I call them and tell them this whole scenario, they ask me if there is anything they can help me with, otherwise the phone call will be disconnected. They no longer respond to my email regarding this and they told me that if I keep contacting them through ebay live chat that they would bring up charges for Harassment. What a way to run a company. I also notice that when you post ANY negative comments about ebay that are valid in the ebay forums, the comments are removed and you are banned from posting in their forums. They are trying to cover up anything negative about their company, but truth be told...,check out Ebay and Paypal on the Better Business Bureau and see all the complaints they have since January. There are well over 10,000 of them. Ebay soon will be a thing of the past and they will continue to lose thousands of members a week to Amazon, just like me.

The new ebay is here!!!
They now have a monopoly with paypal. I tried signing up and using my own merchant account to accept payments. Ebay tried to discourage me in an effort to force me to sign up to paypal to accept payments. They have everyone brainwashed into thinking they are safe and secure. They are far from that. Look them up on The Better Business Bureau website. 7040 complaints against them since January and counting. Ebay and paypal will soon be a thing of the past with their fees going up and their scam and monopoly with Paypal is making people walk away. Paypal ALWAYS takes the side of the buyer. I sold an item to a buyer in California. I mailed it and they claimed they received an empty box. Paypal refunded their money-no questions asked!!
They are a scam.
Sell on Amazon.com.
Ebay's stock is dropping fast and Amazon's stock has skyrocketed.
You tell me that ebay is a great place to sell now.
Think about it before you bash me for stating the truth!!
BEWARE of the ebay success kits that are sold by ebay. Yes, every single one of them, and they are designed to make you use paypal to accept payments and not one of them mentions anything about moneybookers or any other payments accepted.
Ebay does not let sellers use Google Checkout because Ebay does not make money from payments that go through Google Checkout. They claim that their system does not support it but that is a load of crap.
Moneybookers is a horror show, once again an attempt to discourage you to use Paypal to accept Payments.
Paymate is allowed but only to power sellers. What are you supposed to use in the meantime?? You guessed it- Paypal!
Just remember, ebay is no onger seller friendly, and if you are considering opening an ebay business-be warned, and I hope you have a few thousand dollars to throw away to the greedy giants.

I have been trying to contact Paypal about the money in my account, and this is the message they sent me:

Thank you for contacting PayPal.

I think it is right. Selling our things on Ebay may be a great way to make a few bucks on things we don't need any longer, but it can hardly be considered a real job that we could do day in and day out for money to pay bills with... right?

I JUST WANTED TO COMMENT ON THIS. PAYPAL PAYPAL DOES THIS TO A LOT OF PEOPLE AND IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT YOU SAY OR WHAT YOU DO PAYPAL IS ALWAYS RIGHT. ALWAYS WATCH YOUR BACK WHEN USING PAYPAL. YOU CAN BE THE MOST TRUSTWORTHY SELLER ON EBAY AND AS SOON AS YOU HAVE SOMEONE PAY YOU WITH A STOLEN CREDIT CARD OR DO A CHARGE BACK YOU ARE BASICALLY SCREWED. I AM GOING TO GIVE YOU ONE TIP THAT GOES A LONG WAY. WHENEVER YOU SELL SOMETHING ON EBAY TRANSFER YOUR MONEY OUT OF PAYPAL! . ANOTHER THING IS IF YOU HAVE NO DISPUTES WITH PAYPAL AND NO OTHER PROBLEMS AFTER THEY CANCEL YOUR ACCOUNT THEY WILL RELEASE YOUR MONEY AFTER 60 DAYS. THAT IS THEIR MINIMUM. YOU HAVE TO CALL THEM AND MAKE IT CLEAR THAT YOU WANT YOUR MONEY AFTER 60 DAYS AND IF THEY SAY NO TELL THEM YOU WANT THE MANAGER AND DONT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER. THEY WILL RELEASE IT AFTER 60 DAYS!

HOPE THIS WAS HELPFUL ALL AND FEEL FREE TO CHECK OUT MY OTHER POSTS!

I've made money hand over fist on ebay. It takes alot of work, and patience. But if you want to be successful, you gotta put in the time. When I first started, I was only selling what I had laying around the house. But them i started yard saling and flea markets and did pretty well with that. Took me about a year to become a power seller. But them, I started wholesale and dropshipping. Some of the services I found were really shady. I mean really shady. I found a couple that worked well for me, and profits are up! :-D
I wrote a little on my blog about my experience with them, you can check it out here:

http://wholesale4profits.blogspot.com/2009/11/wholesale-and-dropshipping-for-online.html

Good luck everyone!
