Has anyone on these forums ever BOUGHT a timeshare from an ebay seller? I've seen other topics on boards that describe how to sell a timeshare but nothing explaining the common mistakes made in buying. I'm not really all that savvy with real estate but I must admit some of the timeshares on ebay look like good deals. I'm considering one in Cancun for family vacations.

Not me, although they do look tempting The only information I could find about purchasing a timeshare safely was this guide on ebay.

Never bought on ebay but I did sell once. That whole situation was a nightmare. I guess I was able to sell it though on the bright side. It's great for people like you who are a little smarter than the average consumer...You sound somewhat new to the timeshare game...I've been referring other newbies here: timeshareconsumergroup.org/advocacy.html
I found it after-the-fact, but it’s a good way to familiarize yourself with what you'll be dealing with when entering into a timeshare. I kinda wish websites like this had been around ten years ago when I was trying to check the reputation of my dealer. But oh well it's never too late to get the right information. Good luck! |

I am not sure that it is really safe to do this. I am concerned that you will pay money and then for some strange reason will never be able to use the time share. I would get as much information before hand and check it out.

I am pretty wary of buying timeshares generally, as there seem to be hidden charges (such as maintenance) involved. I would definitely want to see the timeshare before considering buying, so I would not buy one using Ebay. However, it would give an indication of what is on the market.

I think it is a major risk. I'm not sure though, as I haven't researched it. I suppose people are making deals. I guess the right deal for you is the key. You could take a major hosing if you're not particular on the details. I've never thought of a timeshare. In fact, I didn't know they were popular anymore.
