What do I do. My hubby had me list an item and it sold today, but I was supposed to end it. It is no longer available. How do I get out of this without negative feedback? Crying or Very sad

Email the seller and apologise. Thats about the only option I can think of, I've done similar things in the past and if your sincere and the buyer is reasonable you may get away with it?

Was it a high value item?

Yes, the best thing to do is that to contact the buyer and explain everything sincerely.

Be straight forward with the buyer, than hope and pray they they will not give you a negative anyways. Whatever you do, do not post a feedback for them if, or untill they do. If they give you a negative on it, and chances are they will, you can go in and post a response to the feedback they left you. If you are signed up for the Square Deal thing, they will help you "REMOVE" a negative feedback......in some cases. Not sure about this one, but after all E-Bay Feedback is a VERY BAD JOKE anyways. E-Bay straight out tells their big sellers to NOT leave feedback till they receive it, so that they can retaliate.

Sure, No one wants a negative on their feedback, but you can fairly well nutralize a negative feedback with the "response" you leave to it. Anytime I check feedback, I also check for responses to negatives. Unfortunately many e-Bayers are not aware they can post a response.

Do you have a source for this statement? Where can I find this information?

All you have to do is become a power seller! They than send you a message suggesting you advise your buyers that you post feedback upon reciving notice of satisfactory receipt of merchandise, and telling them that the eaist way for the buyer to do that is thru leaving feedback for the seller.

eBay community help pages suggest that all buyers leave feedback when they receive the item - http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/buy/win-feedback.html
There is no separate policy for dealing with purchases from powersellers, and I speak from experience - do you ? Wink

Please, for the benfit of other members please distinguish between FACT and OPINION. Misinformation can be disasterous to newbies, so please do not cloud their learning curve!

It's an ageing arguement as to who should leave feedback first - seller when the payment is received, or buyer when the item is received. Many sellers, myself included, only leave feedback when it is left for us.
To me, this indicates the transaction is complete and the buyer is satisfied.

Feedback is voluntary anyway, so why worry too much?!

I used to leave feedback as soon as the item was paid for, howevere I had a few run-ins with idiots who received a perfectly satisfactory items within 48hrs, but left neutrals for avoidable reasons, or for their mis-understanding. Worse, somebody attempted to blackmail me into a refund or they would leave a neg.

Stupid inbred used the eBay messaging system to tell me this though! Reported to eBay, and Naru'd.

Back on topic, I have had to cancel a couple of sales - one item I listed twice in error, another broke as I was packaging it, and one I realised after it had sold that it was incorrectly described. I sent a very apologetic email explaining all to the buyers, offering alternatives or refund as they wished.

Each ended amicably with positives left in 2 of the 3 cases, no feedback in the 3rd. Not all sticky situations need to risk a neg, and as mentioned above, a well worded response gives the true picture of events.

Many sellers, myself included, only leave feedback when it is left for us. That is EXACTLY what e-bay suggests you do, and I DO LOVE IT WHEN SELLERS LIST THAT IN THEIR AUCTIONS, because I know beforehand NOT TO BUY FROM THEM! When someone buys something on e-Bay, and pays it, he/she has compleated his/her end of the deal, AND IS DUE FEEDBACK THEN!!!!.. When a seller holds his buyer HOSTAGE for feedback before he posts feedback for the buyer, that sellers feedback is LESS THAN WORTHLESS! Why, because it is FALSE!! If a seller cannot provide good enough service, and therefore is afraid to post feedback untill he/she receives feedback from the first person to complete their end of the deal, that sellers feedback is WORTHLESS!!
To me, this indicates the transaction is complete and the buyer is satisfied.

Feedback is voluntary anyway, so why worry too much?! I stopped worrying about feedback years ago, EXCEPT for the vendor who has hundreds or worse yet thousands of positive feedbacks, and not one nuteral or negative. That vendor I distrust big time!

Worse, somebody attempted to blackmail me into a refund or they would leave a neg. Uh Ha....just what I was saying about your types! Go bawling to e-bay as soon as someone catches you up on something....opps....now I'll probably get booted off e-Bay too, because I am not kissing up to them or you here on another of their sites!

I sent a very apologetic email explaining all to the buyers, offering alternatives or refund as they wished. Anyone who sells any volumn at all, is going to have 'slip-ups'. Break an item while packing, go to ship an item, and find that what is in the box is different than described in the listing, etc..

I haven't just been a seller on eBay, I've been a buyer. I've bought expensive items, and not so expensive items. For you to state that seller feedback, in high volume positives, is worthless, is a foolhardy statement. Perhaps you don't buy much.

Why? How many times have you been screwed as a buyer by a vendor with thousands of positive feedbacks? What percentage does it represent of your total buying transactions on eBay? Lets stick to facts here.

What is clear is that you have a personal agenda, and an axe to grind with eBay. If you can't provide clear examples, then your argument is very weak. Right now, all of your statements seem to be steeped in resentment. Weak at best.

Well for your damm info, I have bought many many thousands of $$ worth on E-Bay! The difference between you and me, is that I am out here SCREWED BY EBAY, with no one to contact for instand info, and you are ON E-BAYS PAYROLL, PAID TO DEFEND THEM!

I HAVE TO WORK FOR A LIVING, AND DO NOT HAVE TIME TO SCREW AROUND HERE WITH AN E-BAY MINION.

ALMOST FORGOT.....THIS I SHOULD SAY YET! E=BAY AS IT WAS CONCEIVED AND STARTED WAS THE NEXT BEST THING TO SLICED BREAD..... IT WAS GREAT! B U T WITH THE MONEY HUNGREY EVIL GODS WHO RUN IT NOW, IT HAS DEGENERATED TO THE POINT WHERE IT IS NOW THE INTERNET MAFFIA! [/u]

If the way you interact here is any indication, then perhaps you may want to change your attitude slightly, and then you may achieve more positive results with eBay service personel.

I'm probably not the guy you want to lecture about working for a living. I work like a dog, every single day. That doesn't give me, you, or anyone else any right to expect hidden agendas on a message board to achieve anything but a negative result. Emotional outbursts usually cause anyone in the service industry to just "switch you off". That is just the way of the world. Fair or not, that is how it is. You may want to try a
different approach to solving your problems with eBay.

I can also assure you that I neither work for eBay, or accept money for my opinions about eBay. I wouldn't care of it was eBay, GM, or Ford, if someone comes here with an obvious agenda to bash a company, then that individual deserves, and should expect to be challenged by others.

I think the new name for that these days is, "fair and balanced". GIve it a try.

Lots of theory, little fact.

Give us some examples instead of emotive opinion. It will increase the credibilty of what you say.
