| I know a lot of scammers accept western union, but as a seller is it safer for me to accept it. And where can I pick up wu payments? |

Western Union is a valuable service but it usually gives red flags when used on eBay. I've been contacted many times before auctions close with offers to pay for the auction with WU at a premium. Maybe it's a competitor trying to get you to close your auction, someone who will send WU then have an accomplise pick up with forged credentials, or just someone messing around. Why bother?
Do you allow Western Union payments as an options in your auctions?
Western Union payments can be picked up wherever you see the black and yellow Western Union sign. WU's site can help you find a nearby location. The sender will need your name, address, and phone number when sending. You need to show an ID on pickup.

I know it's an old thread, but scammers use western union because its secure for them. I.e - once payment has been sent and collected it can not be taken back.
Personally I'd avoid it - but it's your call whether you allow it as a payment option. |

| Receiving shouldn't be too much of an issue tbh, I have accepted it in the past with no problems. Never EVER pay fro anything with it though.. |

While having people offer to pay me via Western Union is rare, I've never had a problem with it.
While it could certainly be used by scammers (so can everything else), I've found that if they're willing to take the time and effort to send a Western Union money transfer, they likely legit and for some people who for some reason don't have a credit card and still want to get the money to you fast, this is a viable option.
If you go to the Western Union website, the places where you can do a search on where to pick one up.

| I would say just be careful that you make sure you actually collect the payment before you ship the item. Some scammers send out very authentic looking western union notices saying that they have confirmed the payment received, but of course when you go to collect, it's not really there. |

As an alternative...If the person that has purchsed from you does not have PayPal or a checking account. You can ask them to send you a money order. Money orders can be purchsed from the Post Office.
I ran an eBay drop off store and we did not accept Western Union.
