Lee Mcintyre has achieved instance recognition with his ebook - Auction Profits Unleashed launched today. Despite being a full time school teacher, Lee has found the time to master using eBay to maximise profit and use eBay to lay the foundations of his successful online business.
1) Lee, What's your ebook Auction Profits Unleashed all about?
Lee: Auction Profits Unleashed is a step by step blueprint detailing how to use eBay as a marketing tool. It's NOT a guide going into detail about how to run a succesful auction. Instead it focuses on how to use eBay as a mechanism to build a list and make money at the same time.
I use these strategies everyday in the teaching niche and they have proven to be extremely effective. In fact, by discovering one of the Auction Profits Unleashed methods, I was able to treble my profits while also cutting down on the amount of auctions that I was running!
2) How did you start on eBay and what's the most important lesson you've learnt?
Lee: During August 2006 I was on holiday in Greece and I proposed to my girlfriend. I then spent sometime thinking of different things I could do to make some extra money to pay for the wedding, ranging from exam marking to starting my own business.
When I got home I happened to notice a practically invisible market within the education niche on eBay. I was so excited that I stayed up making products until the sun came up the next day!
Without a doubt the most important lesson that I've learnt during the past year is to view eBay as a step in the marketing process, and not the whole process in itself.
3) What would you describe as eBays best "hidden feature" for sellers?
Lee: I find that the best "hidden feature" is the ability to suck customers off eBay and then turn them into lifelong customers. I have rivals in my niche who sell four times more than I do per day, yet I still make money.
The reason is I have my auctions set up in a such a way so that almost all of my customers opt to sign upto my list post sale, where I then offer them my upsell. And this whole process is almost invisible meaning less chance of duplication from my competitors.
4) If you was in charge of eBay for one day, what changes would you make?
Lee: For selfish reasons I would raise the fees! Because I make so much money at the backend I could still profit even if the fees were trebled, and most of my competitors could not.
In all seriousness though, I'd make eBay store listings more visible within the search results.
5) Who's been the biggest influence on your eBay activity?
Lee: There is a competitor of mine in the education niche who has a huge feedback score, and a well established customer base. When I first started trading on eBay it ruffled her feathers and she used her market dominance to try and put me out of business.
I have an extremely competitive nature and it was this difficult challenge that kept me up late at night plotting how I can create my own competitive advantage. And it was her behavior that ultimately influenced me to create the Auction Profits Unleashed system as a way of being able to grab her market share.
I bought my first eBook from John Thornhill and I admire his work hugely, and it has influenced many of the things that I'm trying to accomplish today. And I have to mention Jim Cockrum who has provided a constant inspiration through his excellent newsletter.
6) Any other advice for AuctionCUT members regarding eBay?
Lee: The biggest piece of advice I can give is to use eBay as a marketing tool. If you develop an effective marketing funnel, and then use eBay to drive traffic into that funnel, you're going to dramatically increase your profits.
I'd also advise people to automate everything they possibly can. I'm one of the only people in my niche to use digital delivery and this gives me an incredible competitive advantage. While the competition are sending products manually via email, I am creating new products to take my business forward.
