What do you think of 1p auctions, are they simply for building feedback quickly or is there are a genuine reason for selling goods at 1p.

Some sellers use penny auctions to promote affiliate programs via ebooks and infoproducts, but should Ebay allow 1p auctions to continue?

I think they are just used for feedback purposes or in hopes that the buyer will click on "view sellers other items". I'm into the stamp and coin game on ebay and found that allot of sellers start basically worthless stamps out at 1p and many of them sell for just that. It'll take a while to make any money that way!

I've also seen other 1p auctions with a $15.95 shipping charge for an item that weighs less then a 1/4 pound.

I always check feedback and what exactly has been sold. As long as people do this then it lessens the risk although I still believe that it is used a lot to bump up feedback quickly not for genuine reasons!

They are a good vehicle for pushing affiliate products and commissions, they are also good for building an opt in list. For feedback purposes they are shite as people are savvy enough to take a look at a sellers feedback etc etc...

They are also useful for keeping transaction levels up in order to retain powerseller status.

1p auctions done correctly can lead to good revenue from back end sales - opt-in mail lists, back end sellingm affiliate programs etc, as well as the extra traffic they bring into a store.

It's tricky territory for the unawares - eBay pull these at the drop of a hat if there is the slightest doubt around them - copyright issues, feedback solicitation etc...
